Vermont may not be known for its pizza, but this famous restaurant more than makes up for it.
The New York Times released a list of the 22 best places to get pizza in the U.S. on Wednesday. Tillerman’s, a restaurant and inn in Bristol, a small town about 45 minutes outside Burlington, was named one of the best.
The pizza spots quickly became popular. Tillerman’s opened in 2022, replacing the Inn at Baldwin Creek and Mary’s Restaurant after the previous owners retired.
The restaurant is set in a new era and is housed in an 18th century farmhouse.
What the New York Times thinks of Tillerman
Brett Anderson, who wrote the Tillerman section in the article, praises the owners, Jason Kirmse and Kate Baron, Tillerman’s pastry chef, Kelsey Martin, and the sous chef, Taylor Adams, in the article.
“Rustic comforts — roaring fires in the winter, live music nights by the barn in the summer — remain the main draw here,” Anderson says.
Anderson would also say that the restaurant’s selection included seasonal pizzas with crispy edges.
What Tillerman Restaurant said
The folks at Tillerman, whose owners are Jason Kirmse and Kate Baron, posted on Instagram about their position on the Times article. They expressed how honored they were to be included in the article.
“It’s so fun to read about the evolution of something as ubiquitous, enduring and beloved as pizza,” the post said.
The post also praised Vermont’s pizza scene and explained how every aspect of the Tillerman’s experience enhances the food they serve.
“A lot of thought and care goes into what we offer, much of it behind the scenes, people hard at work – it always comes back to our team that makes it all possible,” the company said.
Tillerman’s is located at 1868 N 116 Rd, Bristol, VT 05443. They are closed from Saturday through Tuesday and are open the rest of the week. Their hours of operation are 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
